Going to ziyaarat of Imam Hussain (as) has so many merits that hadith says that it is more beneficial than going for 1000 Hajj and umrah with the Prophet (saw). The blessed land that Imam Hussain (as) is buried in is a piece of Heaven and on the Day of Judgement, that piece of land will rise to the sky; the dust will brush off and reveal a sparkling land. Why else would the sands of Karbala be called Khake-Shifa, that when you eat it, it cures any illness? The sand itself is a blessing upon mankind. When we go for ziyaraat, we do not care about the gold that glitters around the shrine, because the real gold is what's buried under the earth which is Imam Hussain, Hadhrat Abbas and the Shuhada e Karbala. The blessed body of al-Hussain (as) is a great shafaat, that when the angel Futrus was stranded without his wings, Jibrael suggested him to touch the new born grandson of the Prophet, Hussain, as a cure. Imam Hussain (as) is the ark of salvation just as are all the ma'sumeen, but the ark of Hussain is more spacious and faster and this is why there is a large ship in front of the shrine of Hussain.
